Baseball Field Water Removal- Which Weapon Is Best For The Battle
Keeping your baseball field dry can be an uphill battle in some areas. The weather has a tendency to create a lot of extra work sometimes and having the right tool for the job can make that work go a little more smoothly. When I look out the window these days, being that it’s February and I’m in the Upstate NY, I see a lot of snow on the ground. On top of that there is a promise of a warm March which is great unless you’re in charge of field maintenance. Long story short is that tons of snow is going to melt fast and there is going to be a lot of wet fields to deal with.
So what do you do grab your Diamond Pump and keep pumping. Well I guess that’s an option if you need to work on your back and bicep muscles. There is a more sophisticated option out there. Why not use a Dolphin or Mackerel. No I’m not suggesting you throw a fish into those puddles. The Dolphin and Mackerel are barrel style water removers that can get the job done fast.
These two items are also referred to as Super Soppers and if you’ve been using a Diamond Pump for a while you’ll be happy to learn that they are made by the same company so you know they’ll be dependable.
The Dolphin Super Sopper is the largest model with a huge 14 gallon holding tank. You simply roll the unit through the standing water and shabam it sucks up that water like magic.
Here’s how it works. The drum is perforated by tons of small holes and then wrapped in an absorbing foam pad ( a super sponge), as the unit is rolled through the water it will absorb up to ¾ of an inch of water, the foam pad on the drum rolls through a squeeze roller that forces the water out of the pad and into the containment drum that is suspended on the axel of the unit. When full you simple drain the drum by turning the elbow shaped drain down.
The Makerel Super Sopper is the Dolphins baby brother with a 7 gallon holding drum. It gets the job done too and weighs less when full although you will have to empty it more often.
So if water is your nemesis and causes a big problem with wet fields get yourself one of these Super Sopper units and get to work. It will save hours of backbreaking work filling those buckets with a field pump or using pillow style water removers.
