Are black olives and green olives the same fruit?
I always thought that black olives and green olives were 2 separate types of olives, unrelated. But recently someone told me that they are the same, but the green olive turns black when it is ripe. Is this true?
Also verify that olives are a fruit and not a vegetable.

Olives are fruits. Green olives are un-ripe and black olives are fully ripened. However, like other plant foods, there are hundreds of varieties of olives, just like tomatoes or grapes. Therefore, if you eat a black olive and a green olive you are very likely eating two Different Varieties of olives. That is because some make better pickled green olives while others make better unpickled black olives and still others make the best pickled ripe olives and….well you get the idea.
